Settings

All settings are being moved from the current Tournament Manager and into a specific Settings page to make the Tournament Manager easier to use and settings easier to find. In this transition, a setting is considered an option that you are likely to change once or twice, but not use during the running of the tournament, where features that are part of the running of a tournament, like Participants, Sign Ups and Draws, will remain in the Manager interface. During the transition period, a banner will be displayed in the Tournament Manager to direct users to the Settings page, and a banner will be displayed on the Settings page to return to the Tournament Manager. After the transition period, this will be replaced with a more permanent form of navigation. Long term, the current Tournament Manager interface will be replaced with a new interface focusing more on the tournament running features.

If you have any feedback on the changes, let us know via the Discord in the sidebar!

Why is this change being made?

Currently, the Tournament Manager has a large number of settings that most users never change, or only change in advance of the tournament. As more features are added, more settings are required, which clutters up the interface and makes it harder to use. By moving settings that rarely change to a dedicated page, it cleans up the Manager and makes it easier to find the setting you want to change. The Settings page has been designed from the ground up for use on mobile phones and tablets, so while the experience is still better on a larger screen, the Settings are far more usable on small screens than they have been in the past. Similar changes will be brought to the Manager when it is redesigned in late 2022.

Additionally, the new Settings page makes use of intelligent patching, so if multiple users are editing settings at the same time, only the changes they make are saved and they will be unable to overwrite other users’ non-conflicting changes. Edits to the same settings will still be overwritten. A new “Revert” button has also been added, allowing you to undo all of your changes, and a navigation prompt has been added to avoid losing unsaved changes. These changes make it far easier to avoid situations where changes are lost or not recorded correctly.
